Water Billing Update

The Village of Greenview would like to inform residents that we are aware of ongoing issues with our current water billing system. We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve these problems.
We are in the process of implementing an entirely new water billing system, with a target “go-live” date of April 1, 2026. Once the new system is operational, residents will again be able to make water payments online using a debit or credit card. Watch for updates on the website at thevillageofgreenview.com and Village Facebook page.
Until the new system is in place, payments must still be made by cash, check, or money order only. Payments may be:
- Dropped in the night drop box at Village Hall, or
- Paid at the Bank of Greenview.
Please note that water payments are always due on the last day of each month. Any account not paid by that date is subject to a late penalty.
We have received several complaints regarding residents not receiving their water bills. Please be advised that all water bills are taken to the post office all at the same time. Once they are delivered to the post office, we have no control of where those bills go. If you do not receive your bill, it is your responsibility to contact Village Hall to get a copy of the bill or the amount due or contact the post office regarding where the bill might be. We also have the option to sign up for e-billing to where you can get your bill emailed to you each month to alleviate this issue.
Some other complaints we are getting is that no one answers the phone at Village Hall. Because the Village does not have a full-time clerk with set office hours, a new system has been set into place, that a resident can call Village Hall at 217-968-5314 and leave a message with your name, phone number, and a brief description of the issue you are having, and someone will be in contact with you within 2 business days. So, if you leave a message at 4:55 pm on a Friday it will likely be Tuesday or Wednesday before someone gets back with you. So, if you are calling regarding your water payment, please allow time for a return phone call.
We have received concerns from the bank regarding customers being upset and yelling at Bank employees regarding their water bills. Please keep in mind that:
- Bank employees cannot answer ANY questions regarding water bills, or late notices.
- The bank accepts water payments strictly as a convenience to residents.
- If this courtesy is abused or bank employees are subjected to inappropriate behavior regarding matters outside of their control, this service will be discontinued.
